Terms of Service

Last updated: April 1, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Annotia, operated by 333 Studios ("we", "us", "our"). By using annotia.io (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Annotia. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement.

2. Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You may sign in with email/password or Google. One account per person. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

4. User Content

You retain ownership of your comments, collections, and other content you create on Annotia. By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to display it on the Service. You can delete your content at any time.

We may remove content that violates these Terms or that we receive valid reports about.

5. Research Papers

Annotia aggregates metadata and abstracts from open-access sources including OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, arXiv, bioRxiv, medRxiv, psyArXiv, and Europe PMC. We do not host, store, or reproduce full-text papers. Links to papers direct you to external publisher sites.

Annotia does not provide any mechanism to upload, submit, or otherwise transfer copyrighted full-text content to the Service. All paper data displayed on Annotia is sourced exclusively from publicly available bibliographic metadata and abstracts provided by third-party open-access databases and APIs (e.g., CrossRef, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar). Abstracts and metadata are not copyrightable works under most jurisdictions and are treated as factual bibliographic data.

Paper metadata is provided "as is." We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any paper information displayed on the Service.

6. AI Analysis

AI-generated analysis is produced solely from publicly available abstracts and bibliographic metadata — never from full paper text. AI analysis is provided for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for reading the original paper. AI outputs may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy of AI-generated content.

All AI-generated content on Annotia is clearly labelled as such and carries a disclaimer to verify against the original source. Users may flag AI analysis they believe to be inaccurate, and flagged content is subject to community review and correction.

Medical disclaimer: AI analysis of medical or health-related papers should not be used for clinical decision-making. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional.

7. Pro Subscription

Annotia Pro is a paid subscription at $5/month, billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time from your dashboard. Upon cancellation, Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial months.

8. Confidence Voting

Confidence scores reflect community opinion and are not an indicator of scientific validity. Voting should be based on your genuine assessment of the paper's methodology and findings.

9. Flagging and Moderation

Users can flag content they believe violates these Terms. We review flags and take action at our discretion. Repeated abuse of the flagging system may result in account restrictions.

10. Intellectual Property

The Annotia name, logo, design, and original code are the property of 333 Studios. Paper metadata is sourced from open-access databases and remains subject to their respective licenses.

11. Limitation of Liability

Annotia is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. 333 Studios is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to reliance on AI analysis, community discussions, or paper metadata.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify users of significant changes.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of California.
